Description
Bakery company Warburtons announced the closure of its premises in Newburn, Newcastle Upon Tyne. The closure of the site will result in the loss of 100 positions, but it will not affect 18 employees from a separate bakery, responsible for 'free from' products. The company attributed the decision to changing customer preferences, as customers prefer buying wrapped bakery options to bread loaves. The plans are now subject to the statutory 45-day consultation period, with the intention of the company to redeploy staff wherever possible.
