Description

The Danish multinational producer of pork meat Danish Crown announced that it will dismiss 175 employees at the slaughterhouse in Horsens. Although pig meat prices are currently record high, Danish pig producers send fewer pigs for slaughtering. The company explains that some members of the cooperative that owns Danish Crown (DC), in continuation of the drought last summer, have stopped growing piglets to avoid buying expensive feed. At the same time, the export of Danish piglets sent for fattening and slaughtering primarily in Germany and Poland continued to increase. The result is that fewer pigs are sent to Danish slaughterhouses.

The management of DC will now start the mandatory discussions with the slaughterhouse workers union, NNF, about how to mitigate the effects of the redundancies.
