Description

The pen and lighter manufacturer Bic has announced about 450 jobs cuts worldwide mainly in support functions. At the same time, Bic will create 400 new jobs in the digital professions. About 40 at Clichy and nearly 200 in Sofia (Bulgaria), where a share service centre for the group will be set up. These new jobs (data scientists, digital marketing specialists, etc.) correspond to the profiles sought by the group as it moves towards digital technology. About 100 jobs will be cut in France in its head office at Clichy (Haut-de-Seine). The group explains that its profitability deteriorated in 2018 in a difficult market environment. Faced with more aggressive competition, the group's profitability deteriorated last year, with a 1.5 points drop in its operating margin to 18.1%.

The French manufacturer currently has 13,600 employees worldwide, including 1,800 in France.
