Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The University of Wales Trinity St David (UWTSD) has announced that it will be making 110 redundancies in a bid to reduce costs. The university is based across three sites at Lampeter, Swansea and Carmarthen and employs 1,500 staff. According to reports, the university will make 94 staff voluntarily redundant with a further 16 staff being subject to compulsory redundancy. The job cuts are part of a plan to save GBP 6.5 million. A university spokesperson was bullish about the financial position of the university, despite various reports that the institution faces serious difficulties.
