The Norwegian multinational oil and gas company Equinor (formerly Statoil) will hire 250 employees in 2019. The new jobs are within automation, chemical processes, electro and logistics, both onshore and offshore. 150 of these news job vacancies were announced in January, and 100 more in May. The hirings are partly due to new installations in operation at the Johan Sverdrup oil field, and partly due to the fact that many employees are approaching retirement age. The average age of the employees in the company is 47 years, and about half of the employees will retire within ten years. Despite many hirings this year, the company is also cutting jobs.

The total number of employees in Equinor is 20,000, and the company has its headquarters in Stavanger. The Government of Norway is the largest shareholder in the company.
