Description
EDF Energy has announced plans to close Cottam Power Station, near Retford. The power station had been expected to close by 2025 in line with commitments to generate electricity from sources other than coal. Estimates of the number of jobs which will be lost vary considerably. One source puts the job losses at 158, whereas another source has the figure at 300.
A spokesperson for the Prospect union commented that it was not unexpected that the plant would close; the timing of the announcement was something of a shock, given that they had previously been assured that the plant would be wound down in 2025.
