Description

Babcock has announced plans to cut 150 jobs at its shipyard at Rosyth. This follows two previous restructures in 2017 and 2018 which cut 400 jobs in total. The latest job cuts are necessary as the workload will decrease when the contract to supply Royal Navy aircraft carriers comes to an end. The timeframe for the job losses has not been reported.

Unions have reacted with disappointment at the news. A spokesperson for Unite argued that redundancies would lead to a loss of skills and further decline in the Scottish shipbuilding industry. A spokesperson for GMB urged the UK government to do more to ensure that government contracts are awarded to UK shipyards.
