Description
Kensey Foods, a manufacturer of cakes and pies, has announced plans to close its site in Launceston. The business, which is owned by Samworth Brothers, is one of the largest employers in Cornwall with 650 employees. According to a spokesperson, the site has been loss making for the previous six years, and it is at the stage where it is in need of significant investment in order to become profitable. A consultation with unions is due to begin and there may be a possibility to redeploy around 100 staff to the group's bakery in Callington which manufactures pasties for Ginsters'.
