Description
Multinational manufacturing corporation Prysmian has announced the closure of the offices of General Cable in Barcelona. General Cable, which was acquired by the group in June 2018, focuses on the manufacturing and distribution of products and systems of aluminium, copper and fibre optic cables. The closure will affect all the 121 workers of the site. The offices of General Cable in Barcelona were specialised in commercial and administrative services, such as human resources, financing, logistics and IT.
The trade union UGT has opposed to the closure of the offices, asking Prysmian to reconsider its plan. The union has pointed out that the offices in Barcelona are necessary as they provide administrative support for the three factories that General Cable has in Manlleu, Abrera and Montcada i Reixac. The company has not announced its further plans to workers representatives.
