Description

Bolton Council has approved plans aimed at generating over 30 million GBP (€33.16 million) of savings over a two year period. The decision means that consultation over a proposed reduction of 124 jobs has begun. Like other local authorities, Bolton Council has been hit hard by central government's policy of austerity and the result is that jobs have to be reduced in order to make savings. As well as the job cuts, the council is also putting in place a number of higher charges in order to generate revenue. Following consultation, the Council will sign off on the decision in February 2019.

A previous restructuring took place in 2016, when 239 jobs were lost.
