Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Luka Koper (Port of Koper) plans to hire 200 port workers by September 2019. Two sets of reasons are behind this decision: a future extension of its scale of operations and a major employement restructuring in the firm. Luka Koper received the right for a new port concession area which will enable to increase its transhipment capacities. In addition, the company underwent a big restructuring after the decision taken by the Labour Inspectorate which detected a considerable number of misused civil law contracts. In the following months, the status of 346 workers will be modified from outsourced workers to agency workers, while about 300—400 will continue to work through subcontractors. As these measures will not meet all demands for the workforce, the company will employ an additional 200 workers by September 2019.
