Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Danish region, Region Sjælland (Zealand) has announced plans to dismiss up to 317 employees by the end of November 2018. The redundancies will affect hospital employees in the region such as nurses, medical secretaries, care assistants, administrative staff, doctors and bioanalysts. The restructuring is a result of a general deficit on the region's 2019 budget, which is challenged by costs for treatment of more patients with more complicated diseases and more effective, but more expensive hospital medicine. Region Zealand employs more than 18,000 people and its budget for 2019 is around €19 billion.
