Description

The consortium Sis, which groups the building companies which have been awarded a contract for the construction of a railway loop in Palermo, announced the dismissal of all its 216 employees.

The decision is due to the termination of Sis' contract with RFI (Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, Italian Railroad Network), the company of the group Ferrovie dello Stato (National Railroads), which  is in charge of the management of the Italian railroad infrastructure.

Trade unions started protests against the dismissal and asked for an extension of the contract, which should aim also to finish the work: some important elements of the infrastructure are still missing.
