Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Software company Alchemy Technology has announced plans to create 256 new jobs when it opens its new centre of excellence in Derry / Londonderry. The jobs, which are being supported by regional development funding from Invest NI, will range in annual salaries between GBP 25,000 and GBP 45,000 (about €28,000 - €50,300). According to the reports it is expected that 80 staff will be in place by the end of 2018, and the remaining jobs will be filled over a three year period. The company's founder who is originally from the city himself, gave an interview which suggested that he hoped and expected that, in time, the business would be able to support many more jobs than the 256 already promised.
