Description
George Birchall Ltd, an electrical contractor based in Chesterton near Newcastle Under Lyme, has announced that it is to enter administration. One hundred and twenty-six employees, from the Staffordshire site, have already been made redundant with immediate effect and there will be a further 15 job losses from the company's base in Edinburgh. The company which had been in business for nearly 40 years attributed the decision to enter administration to the loss of major contracts and difficult trading conditions. According to reports, the affected workers will not receive any redundancy payment from the business and will have to apply to Government for statutory pay.
The sister company George Birchall Services Ltd, which is also based in Chesterton and concentrates on facilities management and maintenance, is not affected by the announcement and will continue to trade as usual.
