Description

Carrefour Supérette, the small supermarkets branch of the Carrefour group, announced the closure of 273 of the stores it acquired in 2014 from Spanish retailer Dia. With this operation, the company hoped to strengthen its network in Paris, the north and south-east of France. But for some stores it was difficult to implement the right model and the group lost € 150 million. A plan for safeguarding employment (PSE) must be implemented for the 2,100 employees of these stores, confirmed the CEO.

Update 7/09/2018: The Carrefour group has sent the dismissal notice to 1,274 employees of its small supermarkets in France (Carrefour Supérette) that it has taken over from the Spanish group Dia. 243 supermakets have been closed this summer on a total of 276. Different companies have taken over the remaining 30 stores. Reemployment leave (congé de reclassement) will be applied to the affected employees; this leave can be from 18-months to 36-months long depending the seniority within the company. During this leave, employees receive 75% of their former salary. The group has also proposed a reemployment solution for 1,756 employees but only 350 accepted.
