Description
The Dutch Central Body for sheltering Asylum Seekers (COA, Centraal Orgaan opvang asielzoekers), announced it will close 11 of its centres across various locations in the Netherlands in 2018, which is also coupled with the reduction of some 250 jobs. This means the COA shelter capacity will diminish from 31,000 to 27,000 beds. The reason for the closure of these centres is that the flow of asylum seekers into the country peaked in 2015 and has steadily declined since.
Job losses will take place across the country. Although it is not known when exactly in 2018 the restructuring will commence, the process is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
