Description

The shipping company Hav Line in Bergen is employing 100 persons for a new salmon slaughtering boat. The boat, called 'Norwegian Gannet', will be the largest boat for slaughtering salmon in the world, according to the company, with a capacity for slaughtering 25 fish per minute. The boat will be in use from September this year.

The family Sekkingstad and Haugland group are behind the investments in the new boat. The boat is expected to reduce transport and logistics onshore related to salmon export, as slaughtering and packing will take place on the boat. Competitors in the Norwegian salmon market have expressed concerns about loss of jobs in Norway. According to the CEO, Arnesen, the fear of competition and loss of Norwegian jobs is exaggerated. The company will still create jobs in Norway and be more of a supplement to the Norwegian salmon export industry.
