Description

The British technological company Colt Telecom has announced a round of layoffs in its office in Cornellà de Llobregat (Barcelona) that will affect 147 workers. The jobs cuts will take place in different departments: 72 from the technical support, 56 from the orders validation department and 15 from the customer service area and 4 more not specified. According to UGT union statement, the reason of this collective layoff is to take the activity to India, from where Colt has already been offering services to European customers for half a year. UGT also points out that the apparent good economic situation of the company means that, with this workforce reduction, the company only seeks a reduction of costs to increase profits.

Update 20/07/2018: The workforce of Colt Telecom in Cornellà de Llobregat office approved the agreement with the company management for the collective dimissal that will finally affect 136 of the 500 workers at these facilities (about 30%). The pre-agreement also includes additional remunerations such as salary bonuses until the end of the contract, an employability program financed by the company, flexibility to protect people in more vulnerable conditions and an extra compensation of €3,000 for those over 50 years old.
