Description

The Canadian mining company Firesteel Resources is reopening the gold mine 'Laiva' in Raahe and is recruiting some 120 employees, including both skilled workers and experts, to the site. The mine is expected to start production in August-September 2018.

The company invested EUR 20 million in the mine in 2017. In 2014, after being operational for three years, the previous owner shut down the site due to a lack of economic viability. Firesteel Resources says that the site holds one of the largest gold resources in the region and the aim is to produce two tons of gold per year.
