Description

The management of Ascoval has announced to its central works council it will close a production line of its plant at Saint-Saulve (Nord), resulting in 164 job cuts. The plant belongs to the group Ascometal that was taken over in February by the Swiss group Schmolz + Bickenbach (8,900 employees with a turnover of €2.3 billion in 2016). The new owner maintains all the other sites of Ascometal and take over most employees even if the group annouced possible job cuts in the future. The plant of Saint-Saulve is managed by the group Vallourec, co-owner of the site Schmolz + Bickenbach. Vallourec stresses the need to adjust production to a decreasing demand and to cope with sharp competition. It will start dialogue with social partners to mitigate the social impact of the reorganisation.
