Description

Duck and geese meat producer Hunent is to open a new waterfowl meat processing plant in Mélykút, southern Hungary, which will create 350 jobs. The plant costed HUF 12.6 billion (EUR 40.2 million), supported by a HUF 4.4 billion (EUR 14 million) state grant.

Located on an 9-hectare plot, the 18,000 square meter facility includes a refrigeration hall and sewage treatment unit.

The foundation stone of the procesing plant was laid in September 2017, completion of the first phase is expected in September, when test slaughter will begin. At full capacity, expected by November 2018, the slaughterhouse will process 50,000 ducks or 25,000 geese in a 10-hour shift.

Much of the company's export sales are directed to EU countries, most of them to Germany. Most of the goods sold domestically are delivered to small and large retailers.
