The Dutch retailer of mainly electronic appliances, owned by Swedish investor The One, has been declared bankrupt, leading to the loss of 400 jobs in shops all over the Netherlands. It is said Kijkshop held on too long to an outdated retail format, in which products were showcased in glass cases in the store. A switch to multi-modal retail (i.e. including online presence) was started too late. Even the closure of nearly thirty stores in recent years was not enough to keep the company afloat. Parties are still being sought to take over what is left in terms of stores and merchandise, as well as some of the employees, but as of 22 February 2018 no deals have been made.
