Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Irish Prison Service (IPS) is hoping to recruit 288 prison officers by the end of February 2018.
There were 3,028 IPS staff at the end of 2017, which was below the IPS desired target 3,150, so 122 posts count as net employment.
Maintaining the satisfactory staffing level has been a problem in the IPS over the last few years. While there 85 new recruits last year, there were 148 retirements, and 100 resignations since 2016.
The Prison Officers' Association welcomed the jobs drive, which noted there could be up to 1000 more retirements from the Service over the next three years, because of the age profile of the current staff.
