Description

Supermarket chain Co-op has announced major expansion plans for 2018. The retailer is responding to increased competition from the discount sector by opening 100 new stores across the UK in 2018 which will create 1,600 new jobs. In addition around 150 existing shops will be upgraded as part of a total investment of GBP 160 million. The group has said that 18 stores will be opened in Scotland, 10 in Wales and 20 in London. Co-op has concentrated recent development on its smaller local shops, reflecting changes in consumer habits.
