Telecoms manufacturer Ericsson is planning to reduce its workforce in Ireland by up to 130, through a voluntary redundancy scheme. The company is restructuring across its global operations and is seeking to reduce its staff numbers, mainly at its Dublin-based services campus. Ericsson said it may redeploy some staff to other parts of its operation where possible. It said it was committed to research and development work in Ireland and will keep its workforce in Ireland at 1,200. It currently employs 1,400 across its Dublin and Athlone campuses. Last year Ericsson announced it was reducing its Dublin staff by 59 on account of a cost and efficency programme. The SIPTU union represents some Ericsson staff.
