Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The national Finnish Security Intelligence Service (Supo) is hiring over 50 new employees for positions including detectives, researchers, secretaries and system specialists. Most of the posts are permanent, and the majority are based in Helsinki. However, a significant number are also spread in cities across the country. The recruitment follows from the decision of the Finnish Government to increase Supo's budget by €6 million with the purpose of improving the country's internal security. Finances are directed especially into counter-terrorist activities.
Supo's staff has grown slightly in recent years, but the scale of the current expansion is unprecedented. Moreover, a reform of civilian intelligence legislation is currently awaiting parliamentary discussion. If the reform passes, Supo's personnel resources might be further increased.
