Description

On 26 August 2017, the British ice cream producer Froneri announced it will cut 104 jobs at its site in Uelzen. From the company’s point of view, job reductions are required because the site in Uelzen is less productive than other Froneri sites. In addition to the 104 regular employees, cuts will also affect 80 seasonal workers, who will be replaced with temporary workers.

The works council and the Trade Union of Food, Beverages, Tobacco, Hotel and Catering and Allied Workers (NGG) criticised Froneri’s course of action since neither were included in Froneri’s plans and added that the site in Uelzen is doing well – just not as well as other sites.

At the moment Froneri has 360 permanent staff in Uelzen and produces 50 million litres of ice cream each year.

Froneri is a joint venture between Nestlé and R&R. It is not known by when the job reductions will be implemented.
