Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Fisheries Service under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Lithuania is to dismiss 137 employees in Vilnius by the beginning of January 2018. Currently the organisation is undergoing internal restructuring procedures that are intended to save the state budget and strengthen the fisheries policy control. According to the ministry, the central office of the Fisheries Service will be transferred from Vilnius to Klaipeda, and the number of employees working there will decrease from 182 to 45.
The Fisheries Service is a state institution of the Republic of Lithuania which implements the laws and other legal acts, assigned to it by the Lithuanian fisheries policy, based on the European Union’s Common Fisheries Policy, arrangement and execution of conservation and restoration of fish stocks, control of its usage in marine waters, and applied research in the field of fisheries.
