Description

Chemical company Johnson Matthey has announced that it has entered into consultation over proposed job losses affecting 50 workers at two of its sites in the North East of England. The site in Stockton employs 257 workers and the one in Billingham employs 87 workers, which adds up to 334 workers in total. The move has been prompted by a slowdown in the Chinese economy, and a spokesperson for the business commented that the decision was made in order to secure the long-term viability of the business. The consultation is expected to conclude in October 2017, with the timeline for redundancies announced at the end of the process.
