Description

British Telecom Italia (BT Italia), Italian subsidiary of telecommunications group British Telecom, announced the dismissal of 250 employees.

The decision is attributed to poor market conditions in Italy and intense competition. The job cuts are part of the mother company's industrial plan, envisaging 4,000 job cuts.

British Telecom recently downsized expectations of income and profits for its Italian subsidiary, following the discovery of alleged accounting irregularities, that led to the dismissal of Italian managers and a lawsuit against them.

Negotiations with unions are expected to take place over the next two months.
