Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Sada, a company specialised in processing poultry meat, has announced the intention of implementing an employment adjustment affecting 158 workers form the plant located in Lominchar (Toledo). The company has justified the measure due to the drop in the sales of poultry meat recorded in Spain from 2012 to 2016 (-5%) and in the company (-13%). Workers' representatives point outs that they do not know the company's turnover recorded in 2016, because it has not been audited. Workers' representives rejected the measure and asked for the support of local authorities. The company has recently offered alternative measures to compensate the effects of the dismissals such as the relocation of 70 workers to other establishments.
