Description

On 6 May 2017, DB Regio NRW, subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn announced to cut between 1,000 and 1,200 jobs in North Rhine Westphalia. The job cuts are due to DB Regio NRW's failure to secure all assignments for the public transport services within North Rhine Westphalia as it was the case before. Its competitors operate at lower cost and were able to offer a lower price for the public contracts.

Affected employees will be offered two options: They can transfer to another post within the group; though not necessarily in North Rhine Westphalia. The management also announced the possibility of a transfer to the competitors, which will take over the rail network. However, these companies are not covered by the collective wage agreement of Deutsche Bahn.

Also the Deutsche Bahn subsidy DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung relocated some 100 jobs from the site in Oppum to the site in Kassel due to a centralisation of the wheel set workshops. All affected employees had been able to switch to another nearby workshop of Deutsche Bahn Fahrzeuginstandhaltung in Oppum.

DB Regio NRW employs about 4,000 members of staff and did not name any timeline for these job transfers.
