The German vehicle manufacturer Daimler and its works council have agreed to a cost-cutting package for the commercial vehicles division of the German vehicle manufacturer Mercedes-Benz.
The company plans to reduce its fixed costs at the manufacturer by EUR 400 million (USD 423.64million). The strategy will involve the cutting of up to 2,000 jobs through voluntary redundancy programmes. Other measure that might be used are early retirement, transfers to different areas of the business and attrition. Mandatory redundancies are ruled out at the company until 2020.
UPDATE 16/05/2017:The job cuts should have been focussed on the company's administration divisions in Germany, Brazil, and Turkey. The company said the cuts will not affect production.Due to the refusal from the works’ council there is no target figure of the job cuts. The sites in Turkey and Brazil has been ruled out from the job cuts.
