Description

Seafood conglomerate Insula has decided to close all production at MaxMat in Bodø by the end of 2018. MaxMat is a producer of processed seafoods including fish cakes and salmon products. The current 133 employees at MaxMat will all be dismissed before the final closure in 2018. In addition, 14 jobs were cut in April 2017 as the company moved parts of its salmon production from Bodø to Hitra and Frøya, as previously planned. Main union representative Arnt Hatten states that the closure will likely result in dismissals starting in January or February 2018. It is foreseen that the process will end by October the same year. The union is intent on managing the process as smoothly as possible and to take care of the workers, who have previously been urged to look for alternative jobs as the possibility of closure has been known for some time. The labour market for industrial workers in Bodø is currently though, however.
