Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
In preparation for the merger of law firms CMS UK, Nabarro and Olswang in May 2017, the management teams of the firms have confirmed that 300 business support services and secretarial jobs will be cut. The affected employees have been made redundant and will leave the firms by the end of April 2017. After a review of business services support roles, 650 support staff have been offered positions in the merged firm, which will be known as CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang. According to a statement issued by the three firms after the conclusion of the redundancy consultations, the majority of the job cuts will be carried out through voluntary redundancies.
