Description

On 3 February 2017, aluminium sand casting company MWS Aluguss announced to cut up to 60 out of 320 jobs in Friedrichshafen. MWS Aluguss, headquartered in Kufstein, Austria runs six sites in Germany, Austria and Slovakia. The two German sites in Friedrichshafen and Garching filed for insolvency in November 2016.

The site in Garching has 150 employees, there is no further information about job cuts at this site at the moment. The site in Friedrichshafen plans to cut up to 60 jobs but negotiations with the works’ council, the German Metalworkers’ Union and the management are still ongoing. The works’ council and the German Metalworkers’ Union demand to create a transfer company and partial retirement solutions.

The company is struggling due to the expiration of several major orders from BMW and Audi. Therefore, the company is searching for more clients and a new buyer.

MWS Aluguss employs about 800 people at the six sites in Germany.
