Description

Manufacturer of automotive hydraulic components Bosch Rexroth Oil Control announced up to 130 redundancies at its plants in Nonantola (Modena), Pavullo (Modena) e Vezzano (Reggio Emilia). The job cuts are expected to affect mostly blue-collar workers.

The decision arose unexpectedly during the negotiations for the renewal of the company level collective bargaining agreement. The management disclosed a restructuring plan entailing staff reductions, increase in the number of weekly shifts, changes in the production process, possible transfers of employees, and the recruitment of temporary agency workers in case of increase in sales.

Unions announced strikes to oppose the decision and accused the company of wanting to replace permanent employment with temporary agency work.

Update, 14/04/2017: The company withdrew the previously dismissals and agreed a new company level agreement, envisaging instead a reduction of standard working time from 40 to 30 or 33.5 hours without prejudice to pay and the hiring on a permanent basis of 75 atypical workers currently employed in the sites, including temporary agency workers.
