Description

Bernard Matthews, the well known producer of poultry, has announced plans to cut 150 jobs from its site in Great Witchingham, near Norwich. At least 90 jobs are understood to be at risk at the production facility with a further 50 jobs due to be cut from office roles. The proposals are part of a wider plan to stop production of chicken products at the Norfolk site, which would then concentrate on processed and branded products. A statutory 45 day consultation will need to be undertaken with employee representatives before any job losses can take effect.

UPDATE 07/04/2017: It has been confirmed that Bernard Matthews will cut 114 jobs from its facility in Great Witchingham. The job losses will be from both production and head office roles. This figure is lower than the 150 total which had previously been reported. A spokesperson for the Unite union commented that the workers were disappointed that the owners had not kept previous promises to continue with chicken production.
