Description
Finnish Bakery Fazer has initiated employer-employee negotiations aiming to cut 110 positions in Sweden due to diminishing demand. 60 of these positions will be cut in Hökmark in Västerbotten county (Fazer Bakery is the second largest employer in the region), where the bakery will be closed in order to centralise production in the remaining facilities in Umeå, Eskilstuna, Lidköping and Lund. The goal of this operation is to increase efficiency and profitability of the company. The local leadership for The Food Workers’ Union had not anticipated that Fazer planned to close the bakery and the union will work towards proving that the decision is incorrect in the upcoming co-determination negotiations. In addition to the 60 employees made redundant in Hökmark, 50 jobs will be made redundant on a national level within sales, production and marketing.
The Fazer group has a total of 15,000 employees in over 40 countries of whom 1,133 are employed in Sweden. In 2015, the group had a total turnover of €1,5 billion.
