The management of the cements manufacturer Ciments Calcia announced the cut of about 40 positions in its headquarters of Guerville (Yvelines) out of a total workforce of about 350 employees. The company, whose Italian parent company Italcementi was bought by the German Heidelbergcement, argues that the cement industry is in a weak economic situation.

The Employment safeguard plan (PSE) is expected to be signed in the coming weeks after a process of consultation with the trade unions. According to management, job cuts will result without forced dismissals, with voluntary departures or early retirement. All functions are concerned, from managers to employees and executives.

In the source management state that, since 2007, revenues decreased of around 30% and the operating income of 73%. It highlights that the "golden age" is over when over 25 million tons of cement were used on the French market and that the current trend is around 17 million.
