Description

Sefton Council on Merseyside has become the latest local authority to announce job cuts, as the council comes under pressure to cut GBP 64.4 million (€75.8 million) from its budget, which is estimated to result in between 309 and 442 job cuts. Between 200 and 300 of these jobs are set to be cut from the council's locality teams. Jobs in special educational needs are also understood to be affected. Through a scheme of multi-agency working, the council intends to work in partnership with other councils on Merseyside in order to deliver its services. A spokesperson for the council has said that it will look to defend frontline services, despite a number of the job cuts coming from this area.
