Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Finnish telecommunications company TeliaSonera Finland has initiated employer-employee negotiations aiming to cut 145 positions. In addition, 40 new positions will be created which is why 105 redundancies are expected. An internal restructuring is carried out in order to increase the efficiency of operations and adapt to a higher degree of digitalisation within telecommunications. For example, TeliaSonera Finland's digital customer service will be expanded.
TeliaSonera Finland is a subsidiary to Telia Company which is partially owned by the Swedish and Finnish state. The operations of TeliaSonera Finland are marketed under the trademark Sonera. Telia Company has around 25,000 employees in total.
Updated 6/3/2017:Following concluded employer-employee negotiations 112 jobs will be cut and 71 new positions created. New positions will primarily be filled through internal recruitment. The net effect is therefore 41 redundancies. In addition, 54 employees will have their job assignments changed.
