Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Engineering group Doosan Babcock has announced plans to cut 470 jobs across various sites in its operations. A large number of cuts will be based in Scotland with 270 jobs due to go at the company's base in Renfrew. In England 70 jobs are due to be cut at the Crawley site in West Sussex, 20 jobs from the Gateshead site in the North East, and 25 jobs from the Tipton site in the West Midlands. Other sites will also be affected but details have yet to be made public. In Renfrew the cuts are nearly equally split between engineering and fitting roles (140) and management and support roles (130). Statutory consultation processes have started in relation to the job cuts and final numbers and time frame will be available at the conclusion of the process.
