Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 9 December 2016, the paper manufacture Felix Scholler announced to cut 118 jobs in Weißenborn.
The company plans a restructuring programme due to declining sales figures for its photo basic papers.
The management negotiated with the works' council that the jobs will be reduced through natural fluctuation. However, about 20 job positions, which are fixed-term contracts about to expire, will not be extended beyond 2016. It is not clear if these jobs are additional or within the 118 job cuts.
Furthermore, the restructuring also includes that all employees in Weißenborn will work one hour less with corresponding lower wage starting in 2017.
Felix Schoeller Group employs 839 employees in Weißenborn and about 2,400 employees worldwide.
