Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Facebook has announced that it will create 500 new positions when it opens its new UK headquarters in London in 2017. The majority of the new staff will be based in the Fitzrovia site which is currently being developed, and some jobs may be located in Somerset where the company also has operations. A variety of roles will be available including engineers, marketers and sales staff. The exact date for the launch of the new headquarters is not known. The announcement of the new jobs was made at the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) Conference and a spokesperson for Facebook commented that the UK is still one of the best places for a tech company to be located. The decision for Facebook to recruit more staff has been seen as calming fears that the vote to leave the UK would discourage international companies from being UK-based.
