Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
German vehicle parts manufacturer Schaeffer have announced plans to cut 500 jobs over the next three years. This is due to a weak economic climate and poor results in the first nine months of 2016, which has seen a 5.3% drop in revenue. The move is expected to save the company in the region of € 60 million by the end of 2019. This is the second wave of reduction measures, and will cover the company’s operations in North America as well as Germany. The cuts and savings will be within Schaeffer’s industrial division. The exact location of cuts in North America has not yet been announced, but the company has operations in Canada, Mexico, and the United States that may be affected.
