Description

Alphacan SA, a subsidiary of the Group Kem One Innovative Vinyls (former Vinyls division of the group Akerma), has announced a restructuring that will lead to cut 92 positions on a total workforce of 271 employees. The company that is  specialised in PVC for windows, will cut 92 positions in its plant of Gaillac (Tarn) on a total of 133 employees and create 24 positions in Sablé-sur-Sarthe (Sarthe), which currently has 68 employees. With a turnover of  €43.6 million in 2015, Alphacan SA had three sites in France: Gaillac, Sablé-en-Sarthe and Chantonnay (Vendée). The aim of the restructuring, according to management, is to adapt to the declining construction market and to cope with strong French and foreign competition in the PVC sector and significant losses over the past years. If all recruitment objectives are achieved, then the net job losses will decrease to 68 positions. On October 14th and 20th, the employees and citizens of the city of Gaillac have organised strikes and demonstrated across the city to denounce the job cuts. Negotiations with the social partners are ongoing.
