Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Banking group Barclays has announced that it is to cut 248 call-handler positions from its workforce at the Westwood Business Park in Coventry. The losses are expected to take effect by the end of December 2016. The job cuts are being made in the interests of improving efficiency at the site which currently employs around 1500 people. The company has stressed that it continues to see the Coventry location as important for its future business activities. The Unite trade union is pressing Barclays to try to find suitable alternative employment for affected workers.
