Blackburn with Darwen Council has confirmed that it will cut 500 jobs from its workforce. There are currently 2,700 staff at the authority, though this has reduced over recent years; 1,100 jobs have already been cut since 2010. At the time when these latest cuts were confirmed, the authority also said that it would be stopping weekly bin collections and introducing charges for garden waste and for weekend parking. It is not known when job cuts will begin to take effect, though the cuts are expected to be completed over a three year period.
